The Parish held its Summer Fete this year in the idyllic grounds of St Peters’ School Lympstone. We were blessed with glorious weather for the event and many took advantage of this by taking a dip in the swimming pool to cool off.
Father Philip got into the spirit of things by volunteering himself as a human target for all the ‘wet sponge throwers’ to aim at. Not quite an Olympic sport but very sporting of Father to do it. Given the weather it did prove to be a great way of keeping cool in the hot sun.
There was something for everyone on the day : face painting and games, tombola, raffles, beat the goalie, sweets & cosmetics stalls, plants and crafts for sale. In keeping with the glorious Devon surroundings there were lovely Devon Cream Teas provided by the UCM and delicious burgers from the BBQ.
The event was complimented with live music from violinist, Adam, and Jaime on his concertina.
All in all a smashing and ‘splashing’ day was had by all.
Many thanks to all those who helped to organise and run the event, especially Patrick, Adam, Matty and Johnny, our WYD hosts for the afternoon, and their families. A big ‘thank you’ too to Noel, head of St Peter’s School, who offered the fantastic venue to us, and to all those who came along to support our young people on the day.
The money raised will help to fund our young people attending World Youth Day in Madrid 2011.
