Activity of the young people within the Holy Ghost Parish

It is important to lay solid foundations for the future of the parish, and in Holy Ghost we try to encourage our young people through a variety of activities, both social and religious in focus.

Foremost is the fortnightly youth group, held during term time. This provides a meeting point for the younger members of the parish (of secondary school age) to have fun and socialise, whilst also considering pertinent social issues; for instance, the focus of one term was to do with cultural identity, and covered issues of racism and prejudice. This continues to be run by Ed Pawson and Dave Wells, who commit a lot of time and effort to make it happen, and through their efforts the group has entered its fourth year. Meetings will be held on alternate Sundays between 7 and 9pm unless otherwise stated.

Each year we enter teams in the Plymouth Diocesan Youth Rally at Honiton, where, as well as being a large parish contingent, we usually win many prizes and once the overall trophy, a testament to the strength of our young people.

A section of our young members has also been dubbed the A-Team, because of their regular help and support at parish social events, most commonly serving as waiters and greeters.

The young people are also active in routine parish activities, with many playing musical instruments, acting as cantors, reading or altar serving at Sunday Mass.
