Below is the text of a letter from a Water Aid representative, thanking us for our efforts during Lent:
Dear All at Holy Ghost Church,
Thank you.
Your kind donations of £543.93 will help transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. Please extend our thanks to everyone who made this gift possible.
In the village of Neupane Gaun, at the foothills of the Himalayas, Nawa Raj Meupane used to risk her life collecting buckets of water. With the help of WaterAid, a gravity flow scheme and tap has been installed in the village close to Nawa’s home.
"I felt like I had climbed Mount Everest when we first turned the taps on. We had done great work. It was like a dark day which became full of light."Nawa Raj Meupane, Nepal.
Your gift will help us turn buckets of pennies into buckets of clean water for someone like Nawa. In the last year alone WaterAid has helped over one million people gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
Sadly, many women and children are still forced to spend up to six hours a day walking for water. Tragically, the water is often unsafe leading to diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentery and cholera, causing the deaths of 4,000 children every day.
You can help change this by holding a Walk for Water event. It’s a great way to bring your community together this summer. Our free resources make it easy to plan and publicise a sponsored walk. If you have an idea for a Walk for Water in your area we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch by calling 020 7793 4563.
Thank you once again for helping WaterAid transform lives.
Warmest wishes,
